What are Divisional Charts (Varga Charts)?
Divisional Charts, also known as Varga or Amsa charts, are sub-divisions of your main birth chart (D1/Rashi) that reveal specific life areas with microscopic precision. The ancient sage Parashara described 16 primary divisional charts (Shodashavarga), each analyzing a unique aspect of life from wealth to spirituality.
Each divisional chart divides the zodiac differently: D2 (Hora) divides signs into 2 parts for wealth, D3 (Drekkana) into 3 parts for siblings, D9 (Navamsa) into 9 parts for marriage, D10 (Dasamsa) into 10 parts for career, and so on. These charts provide depth and nuance that the main birth chart alone cannot reveal.
Our Divisional Chart Calculator generates all 16 Varga charts with detailed planetary positions and analysis. Whether you want to understand your career potential (D10), marital happiness (D9), property matters (D4), or spiritual path (D20), these charts provide precise insights backed by millennia of Vedic wisdom.
What are divisional (Varga) charts?
Divisional charts, also called Varga or Amsa charts, are subdivisions of the main birth chart (D-1 or Rashi) that each examine one specific area of life in detail. The sage Parashara described 16 primary Vargas, the Shodashavarga, ranging from the D-1 up to the D-60.
Each chart isolates a theme, so wealth, siblings, marriage, career, and spirituality can be studied on their own dedicated Varga rather than being read only from the single birth chart.
How is a divisional chart calculated?
A divisional chart is calculated by splitting each 30-degree sign into a set number of equal parts and reassigning those parts to signs. A D-N chart divides every sign into N portions, so the D-9 (Navamsa) divides each sign into nine parts of 3 degrees 20 minutes each.
A planet's exact longitude decides which subdivision it falls in, and therefore which sign it occupies in that Varga, which is why an accurate birth time is essential for the finer charts.
Which divisional charts are most important?
The D-1 (Rashi) is the foundation chart for overall life, while the D-9 (Navamsa) is regarded as the most important divisional chart, governing marriage, dharma, and the ripened fruit of every planet. The D-10 (Dasamsa) is central to career and profession.
A planet that is strong in the D-1 but weak in the relevant Varga often gives limited results in that life area, which is why the divisional charts are read alongside the main chart rather than in isolation.
