The rule takes three movable classes and then quietly admits one fixed star, which is the whole of the trick. # Vehicle Purchase Muhurat: Movable Stars, One Exception A vehicle purchase muhurat has to satisfy two requirements that pull against each other. The vehicle should move freely, which argues for the movable and swift nakshatra classes. The purchase should last, which argues for the fixed class. The rule handles this the way muhurat rules usually handle a conflict: it takes the classes it needs and then admits a single star by name. The classes are Chara the movable, Kshipra the swift, and Mridu the soft. Between them they hold twelve stars: Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha from the movable class, Ashwini, Pushya and Hasta from the swift, and Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha and Revati from the soft. Then Rohini is let in, and Rohini belongs to the fixed class. Thirteen in all. ## Vehicle purchase muhurat and its single fixed star Rohini is the only fixed-class star any of the twelve activities in this cluster admits while otherwise refusing that class outright. It is worth pausing on, because it is not an oversight. Rohini is the Moon's exaltation star, and the Moon signifies both comfort and the fourth house, which in Vedic astrology governs vehicles directly. A vehicle is a fourth-house matter, so the Moon's strongest star is admitted regardless of its class. The rule is being read for what it means rather than applied mechanically, and this is one of the few places the tradition shows that reasoning on the surface. ## What 2026 left Thirteen stars is almost half the sky, which makes this one of the more generous screens. The funnel at Delhi, taking the limbs at sunrise: thirteen stars leave 174 days, adding Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday brings it to 99, and the tithi rule brings it to 68. Sixty-eight days is 18.6 percent of the year and the second widest of the twelve. Of those, twelve fall inside Panchak and eight have Bhadra running at sunrise, leaving 50 clear of both, which is close to one a week. This is the practical reason vehicle muhurat is the one most people actually manage to observe. There is usually a qualifying day within a fortnight of whenever the showroom can deliver. ## A movable sign at delivery The rising sign at the moment of taking delivery should be movable: Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. This is the opposite of what house entry and property purchase ask for, and the reason is the same one that shapes the star list. Cancer is the strongest of the four here for the same reason Rohini is the strongest star, since it is the Moon's own sign and the natural fourth house of the zodiac. A Cancer ascendant at delivery under Rohini is the textbook combination, and it happens rarely enough to be worth planning around when it does. ## Why a vehicle is a fourth-house matter Everything in this rule follows from one placement. In Vedic astrology vehicles belong to the fourth house, which also governs the home, the mother and the general sense of being sheltered. That is not an arbitrary grouping. All four are things that carry you. The natural significator of the fourth is the Moon, and Venus signifies conveyances specifically, which is where the strength of Friday comes from. So the rule's preference for Rohini follows from the Moon's exaltation, its preference for Cancer rising follows from Cancer being the natural fourth sign, and its preference for Friday follows from Venus. Three separate-looking preferences, one source. A chart with a strong fourth house and a well-placed Venus is said to carry Vahana Yoga, the combination for owning conveyances, and someone with it is generally held to need less from the muhurat than someone without. That is the standard formulation across this subject: the chart sets the baseline and the muhurat adjusts the conditions at the start, and neither substitutes for the other. Here the muhurat belongs to the first drive rather than to the paperwork, because a vehicle's purpose is motion and the tradition times the beginning of the function rather than the transfer of title. In practice this means the delivery appointment matters less than the moment you first drive the vehicle away, and if the showroom can only deliver on a bad day you can take the keys then and make the first proper journey later. Several families formalise this by driving only as far as home on the delivery day and treating the first real trip as the muhurat. It applies to any journey and a first drive is a journey. ## A used vehicle is a different question The rule as stated is for a new vehicle, where nothing has happened to it yet and the muhurat sets the starting conditions. A used vehicle already has a history, and no choice of star rewrites it. What practitioners do instead is treat the acquisition as a transfer rather than a beginning, which moves it closer to the property rule than to this one: the fixed and soft classes become acceptable alongside the movable ones, and the weight shifts from the first drive to the transfer of the registration certificate. The screen loosens rather than tightens, which is the opposite of what most people expect. ## The colour rule, and what it is worth A widely circulated rule pairs vehicle colour with weekday: white on Monday, red on Tuesday, and so on down the list of planetary colours. It is worth being straight about this. It has no basis in the Muhurta texts, which say nothing about the colour of anything being purchased. What the texts do say is that the vehicle's own significator is the Moon through the fourth house, and that the weekday should be one of the gentle four. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. If a colour rule and the actual screen disagree, the screen is the one with a source behind it. ## Why this one is easy to actually observe Sixty-eight qualifying days, fifty of them clear of Panchak and Bhadra, works out to roughly one clear day a week across the year. That is unusual in this subject. Marriage leaves 35 clear days and a specific couple can use a median of nine of them; buying property leaves 23. A vehicle purchase is one of the few muhurats where the astrologically correct day and the day the showroom can actually deliver are likely to be within a few days of each other. Which is worth saying plainly, because the practical failure mode here is not scarcity. It is a delivery slot offered on a Saturday and accepted without anybody checking, when a Wednesday two days later would have passed every screen in the rule. ## Which tithis go Eight of the thirty go: the three empty ones in each fortnight, then the eighth of each, then Amavasya. That is a lighter screen than a wedding applies and it is a good part of why this activity keeps so many days. Amavasya is the firmest of these exclusions. Buying a vehicle on the new Moon is avoided across every school, and unlike some of the softer preferences here it is not usually negotiated away when a delivery date is tight.
