# Shukra Mantra: 16,000 Repetitions and the Longest Dasha

> Sixteen thousand repetitions against the longest period in the system, and a third of people never live through that period at all.

The Shukra mantra asks for 16,000 repetitions. That is 148 whole malas with 16 beads left over, the smallest remainder of the nine, and across a forty day mandala it comes to 3.70 malas a day, about 16.7 minutes.

Sixteen thousand puts Venus fourth heaviest, behind Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu. But Venus also runs the longest mahadasha in the system, and that changes the reading completely.

## Twenty years, and the second lightest rate

The Venus mahadasha is twenty years, the longest of the nine and a full sixth of the 120 year cycle. Divide 16,000 by twenty and you get 800 repetitions per year of period, second lightest after Mercury's 529.

Ketu is at the far end with 2,429, asking 17,000 against seven years. So Venus and Ketu have almost the same count and rates that differ by more than three times, which is as clear a demonstration as the table offers that the numbers were not set proportionally.

## A third of people never get this period

Here is the figure that undercuts a great deal of advice built around waiting for a Venus dasha.

The nine periods run in a fixed order and your starting point is set by the Moon's nakshatra at birth. Work through every starting position across a normal life span and 34.6% of people never live through a Venus mahadasha at all. Over a lifetime you pass through about 6.56 of the nine.

Venus being the longest period is exactly why it is the easiest one to miss: a twenty year block either lands inside your life or it does not, and there is no partial credit. Which is an argument for treating the mantra as available now rather than as something to schedule around a period that may never arrive.

## Friday, and the windows

Friday belongs to Venus, so its first hora opens at sunrise and the four Shukra windows fall at hora positions 1, 8, 15 and 22. On 3 January 2026 at Delhi they open at 07:15, 13:17, 19:52 and 03:50 the next morning.

Sixteen point seven minutes fits inside any of them: even the shortest day hora at Delhi runs 51.42 minutes. Across a week Venus owns 24 of the 168 horas, which is 14.29% of all time, so the instruction to use its own hora is much less binding than it reads.

## Venus is tethered, and that shapes the chart

Venus is held within roughly 48 degrees of the Sun by its orbit, a leash only Mercury also wears, at 28 degrees. Everything else in the sky is free to sit anywhere.

Two things follow before a chart is even cast. Shukra is never more than two houses from the Sun in either direction, which rules out most of the zodiac for it. And since opposition is impossible, no chart has ever contained a Sun and Venus aspecting one another.

The burning orb for Venus is 10 degrees, tightening to 8 when it is retrograde. That direction surprises people: going backwards shrinks the danger zone instead of enlarging it. With the tether keeping Venus near the Sun regardless, a burnt Venus is a common finding and one of the few solid reasons to take up a Venus practice.

## The exalted Venus that still cannot have the stone

The Shukra mantra has no such restriction. That Pisces ascendant chants it exactly as a Capricorn one does, because propitiating a graha is not the same operation as feeding it.

## Fitting it into a Friday

Four hundred repetitions a day is 3.70 malas, and there is no shortage of window. What moves is the clock: sunrise at Delhi runs across nearly two hours between the solstices, so a Friday window that opens at 07:15 in early January opens well before six in June, and the day hora that holds it stretches from 51.42 minutes to 69.65 across the same range.

## The mantra and what sits around it

The beej form is ॐ द्रां द्रीं द्रौं सः शुक्राय नमः, Om Dram Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah. Friday is the day, white and pastel shades the colours, and the traditional daan items are white cloth, curd, rice and sugar.

Venus is one of three grahas that get two rudraksha beads rather than one: the 6 mukhi carries it at its navagraha position and the 13 mukhi carries it again through Kamadeva. The Sun and Saturn are the other two doubled grahas, and the doubling is forced by counting, since twelve of the fourteen beads carry a planet and there are only nine planets to go round. ## Venus, and the one dignity that catches people out

Shukra is exalted in Pisces and falls in Virgo, which produces a pairing worth holding in mind alongside the licensing table. Virgo rising is one of the three ascendants where the diamond is licensed, through Venus owning the 9th, and Virgo is also the sign where Venus is at its weakest.

So a Virgo ascendant with Venus in the 1st house has a licensed graha sitting in its own fall. That is the case where a remedy has the most to do, since the graha your chart wants working is measurably not working, and it is the mirror image of the Pisces case where an exalted Venus is refused the stone.

Debilitation turns up in roughly 46% of charts overall, so neither case is exotic. What varies is whether the classical cancellation conditions fire, and for Venus specifically they do so at a middling rate compared with Jupiter's 78.0% and the Moon's 53.4%.

## Why Venus is yogakaraka for both Saturn ascendants

Capricorn and Aquarius rising both get Venus as a yogakaraka, owning the 5th and 10th in the first case and the 4th and 9th in the second. Those are the two Saturn signs, and Venus carrying the strongest possible classification for both of them is worth explaining rather than just noting.

It is spacing. Taurus and Libra sit five signs apart, and five is one of the three gaps, alongside one and two, that can put an angle and a trine in the same pair of hands once the 1st house is excluded. Mars qualifies through the same five-sign gap read the other way; Saturn qualifies through its adjacent pair.

What it is not is a statement about Venus and Saturn getting on. The friendship tables and the functional tables answer different questions, and any agreement between them is coincidence rather than confirmation.
