Its star list is not especially restrictive at eleven of twenty-seven. Its tithi screen is ordinary. What makes it narrow is that it keeps only two weekdays out of seven, and no other rule here does that. Monday and Thursday. Monday because the bead is Shiva's, and Thursday because it is the day of the guru, and a rudraksha is traditionally received from one rather than bought. Two of seven is 28.6 percent where most activities keep 43 or 57 percent, and that single difference is the whole story of why the number at the end is so small. ## Rudraksha wearing muhurat across a real year The classes are Dhruva the fixed, Mridu the soft and Kshipra the swift. Eleven stars: Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada; Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha and Revati; Ashwini, Pushya and Hasta. Screened against 2026 at Delhi with the limbs read at sunrise, those eleven stars leave 147 days. The weekday rule cuts that to 45, which is the steepest single drop any screen makes anywhere in this cluster. The tithi rule brings it to 30. A reasonable question is whether a bead associated with a particular graha should be first worn on that graha's weekday, which would override the Monday and Thursday rule. It does make it worth noticing. ## What two weekdays cost, in numbers It is worth spelling out how much a weekday is worth here, because this rule is the clearest natural experiment in the whole cluster. Eleven stars leave 147 days. Keeping four weekdays would leave about 84 of them; keeping three leaves about 63; keeping two leaves 45. That is not an inconsistency so much as a hierarchy. A named day dedicated to the deity the bead belongs to outranks a general tithi preference. The same thing happens with Vasant Panchami for education and Akshaya Tritiya for property, and in each case the named day wins. ## What happens before it is worn The bead is not simply put on. It is soaked, usually in milk or in water, then cleaned, then energised with a mantra, and only then worn. The muhurat governs the wearing rather than the purchase or the soaking, which is consistent with how the rest of this subject treats preparation. The mantra is normally Om Namah Shivaya, repeated a set number of times, or the bead's own mukhi mantra where the wearer knows it. The count varies by tradition and there is no astrological content to it, so nothing about the timing depends on which count a family uses. A fixed sign should be rising at the moment of wearing: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius. Fixed because this is meant to be permanent, and a rudraksha, unlike a haircut or a journey, is intended to stay. ## Why the hour matters more than usual Most muhurats in this cluster are satisfied by any qualifying hour of a qualifying day. This one has a strong preference for the early morning, and specifically for Brahma Muhurta, the muhurta ending shortly before sunrise. At Delhi that window runs a little over forty minutes and shifts with the sunrise through the year. That is the tightest combination of constraints anywhere in this cluster. ## Replacing a bead, and whether that is a new beginning A rudraksha that breaks or is lost raises a question the twelve other activities do not. Is putting on a replacement a fresh beginning, taking the full screen again, or a continuation of something already begun? The general position is that it is a fresh beginning, because the relationship is with the specific bead rather than with the idea of wearing one. A replacement therefore takes the full rule: a Monday or a Thursday, one of the eleven stars, a fixed ascendant, and preferably the early morning. Where the bead was broken rather than lost, most traditions ask that the pieces be disposed of respectfully, in running water or at the foot of a tree, before a replacement is worn, and that this happens first rather than on the same morning.
