Its four padas, its Mars dasha, and the restlessness it is named for. # Mrigashira Nakshatra: All Four Padas, Lord and Meaning Mrigashira Nakshatra runs from 23°20' Taurus to 6°40' Gemini, ruled by Mars, with Soma as its presiding deity. The name means the deer's head, and the symbol is exactly that. In the sky it is the faint triangle of Lambda and Phi Orionis that forms the head of Orion, which is a good joke at the deer's expense, since Orion is the hunter. This is the star of searching. Not finding. Searching. ## Why Mrigashira never arrives The deer in the symbol is not grazing. Its head is up, its ears are turned, it has caught something on the wind that the rest of the herd has not registered yet, and in about two seconds it will be gone in a direction nobody else was watching.
