That is not a limitation of the method, it is the method, and it turns the D2 into a sorting question rather than a chart reading. # Hora Chart (D2): Wealth, and Whether You Earn It or Keep It The Hora chart (D2) is the wealth varga, and it is unlike every other chart in the system because it contains only two signs. Not two prominent signs. Two signs in total. Every planet you own lands in either Cancer or Leo, and the entire reading follows from which one. That makes it the fastest divisional chart to cast and the one most often misread, because people try to read it as a twelve-house chart and there is nothing there to read. ## How the Hora chart (D2) is derived Each sign is cut in half at 15°. In an odd sign the first half belongs to the Sun and is assigned to Leo, and the second half belongs to the Moon and is assigned to Cancer. In an even sign the order reverses: the first half is the Moon's and goes to Cancer, the second is the Sun's and goes to Leo. A planet at 8° Aries sits in the first half of an odd sign, takes the Sun's hora, and appears in Leo. A planet at 8° Taurus sits in the first half of an even sign, takes the Moon's hora, and appears in Cancer. Move that second planet to 22° Taurus and it flips to Leo. Only the two luminaries own horas, which is why only their two signs appear. The five other planets own none. That is the same asymmetry running through the Trimsamsa, where the luminaries own no divisions and the other five own all of them, only inverted. ## Two signs, and what each one means The Sun's hora, Leo, is the active side of wealth: money that arrives because you went and got it, so earned income, effort, initiative, visibility, and the willingness to spend in order to make. The Moon's hora, Cancer, is the passive side: accumulation, savings, what is inherited or received, what is held rather than chased. So the reading is a count, and the count is the point. Add up how many planets fall in each hora, weighting the ones that matter for wealth in your chart. A chart loaded into the Sun's hora describes someone whose money comes from output and stops when the output stops. A chart loaded into the Moon's hora describes someone who accumulates, holds, and often earns less than the balance sheet suggests. Neither is better. They fail differently. The Sun-heavy chart is vulnerable to interruption, and the Moon-heavy chart is vulnerable to never starting. A chart split evenly usually belongs to someone who both earns and retains, which is the ordinary case and needs no drama attached to it. There is a second way to use the split that gets overlooked. Because the boundary falls at exactly 15°, a planet sitting near the midpoint of its sign is close to changing hora, and in a chart with a shaky birth time that is a planet whose wealth signification you should hold loosely. A planet at 14° and a planet at 16° of the same sign belong to opposite categories despite being two degrees apart. Nowhere else in the varga system does so much depend on so small a difference in a chart this coarse, which is a useful reminder that a wide division is not the same thing as a forgiving one. The other overlooked point is what the hora of the ascendant lord tells you. The lagna lord is you rather than your money, and its hora describes the instinct you bring to earning rather than the outcome. A lagna lord in the Sun's hora with the wealth lords in the Moon's is the person who works hard and quietly ends up saving most of it, and who is often surprised to be told so. ## Three checks that matter in the D2 1. **Where the second lord went.** The lord of the birth chart's second house is the wealth lord, and which hora it takes is the single most informative fact in this chart. 2. **Where the eleventh lord went.** Gains, as distinct from savings. An eleventh lord in the Sun's hora with a second lord in the Moon's is the common shape of someone who earns actively and stores passively. 3. **Jupiter and Venus.** The two natural karakas for wealth. Their horas describe the texture of prosperity even when the house lords are ambiguous. ## Where the D2 sits in the classical scheme The Hora belongs to all four Parashari groups, from Shadvarga through to Shodashavarga, which only six of the twenty vargas manage. Its Vimshopaka weight is 1 out of 20, double the Dashamsha's half point despite being a far simpler chart. Its practical advantage is that it barely cares about your birth time. A hora division is fifteen degrees wide, and even the ascendant needs an hour to cross one. For a chart with a doubtful time, this is the divisional chart to trust. ## Reading the D2 against your D1 The D2 says nothing about how much. Quantity is a birth chart question, read from the second and eleventh houses, their lords, and any dhana yoga present. This chart answers something narrower: given whatever wealth the chart supports, does it come from doing or from holding. Which is why a hora reading on its own sounds thin and is genuinely useful in combination. Two people with equally strong second houses and opposite hora distributions need different advice about the same money.
