# Diamond Gemstone: The Smallest Weight and the Widest Confusion

> Heera is the only stone in the set prescribed under a carat, and it is yogakaraka for both Saturn ascendants, which is the opposite of what the enemy tables predict.

A diamond gemstone, heera, belongs to Venus, and two things about it are unlike anything else in the set. It is prescribed at a fraction of the weight of every other stone here, and it carries the top classification for the two ascendants where folk tradition would least expect it.

## Who the diamond gemstone is for

Virgo, Capricorn and Aquarius rising, and the last two are the interesting ones.

- **Capricorn rising:** Venus owns the 5th (Taurus) and the 10th (Libra). Trine and angle at once, so Venus is a yogakaraka.
- **Aquarius rising:** Venus owns the 4th and the 9th. Angle and trine again, yogakaraka again.
- **Virgo rising:** Venus owns the 2nd and the 9th. Licensed through the trine, and a maraka through the 2nd.

Capricorn and Aquarius are both Saturn's signs. Every popular table of planetary friendships puts Venus and Saturn on good terms and Venus and the Moon on bad ones, and here the lordship arithmetic produces the strongest possible endorsement of Venus for both Saturn ascendants. The friendship tables and the functional tables are answering different questions, and when they agree it is a coincidence.

## Where Venus owns the difficult houses instead

Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces rising. Venus owns the 7th and 12th for Scorpio, the 6th and 11th for Sagittarius, and the 3rd and 8th for Pisces.

Sagittarius is the sharpest case. Venus there owns the 6th house outright, and heera is prescribed for relationships, comfort and beauty more than for anything else. Feeding the 6th lord is not a route to any of those.

Pisces rising is worth a second look for a different reason: Pisces is the sign of Venus's exaltation. So a Pisces ascendant can have Venus exalted in the 1st house and still be refused the diamond, because exaltation is a strength reading and ownership is not. The graha is magnificent and it owns your 8th.

## The disputed three

Taurus, Gemini and Libra put Venus in the split category. Taurus rising gives it the 1st and the 6th, Gemini the 5th and the 12th, Libra the 1st and the 8th.

Taurus and Libra are the two ascendants Venus rules, so in both the graha is the native and also owns a difficult house. This is the same argument as Mars for Aries and Scorpio rising, and it comes out the same way: some readers hold that an ascendant lord is never functionally malefic, others hold that the 8th is the 8th, and the texts do not settle it.

## Half a carat, and why that is odd

Our table carries a diamond at 0.5 to 1 carat. Every other stone in the set is prescribed in whole carats: ruby 3 to 5, pearl 4 to 7, red coral 5 to 9, emerald 3 to 6, yellow sapphire 4 to 7, blue sapphire 4 to 7, hessonite 5 to 8, cat's eye 5 to 8. Diamond is the only one under a carat and it is roughly an order of magnitude lighter than coral.

There is no astrological argument for that. Nothing in the classical framework says Venus needs less material than Mars. What differs is the market: a five carat diamond of gem quality is a different category of object from a five carat coral, and the prescription has quietly absorbed that fact.

Which is why white sapphire is the usual substitute and is prescribed at ordinary weights. If the remedial logic ran on mass, swapping a 0.5 carat diamond for a 5 carat white sapphire would be a tenfold change in dose. The fact that both are considered acceptable tells you the weight was never the operative variable.

## The measured share, and one number that undercuts the advice

Virgo, Capricorn and Aquarius rise 9.59%, 7.17% and 6.28% of the time at Delhi across 12,000 births, so the diamond is licensed for 23.03% of people and refused for 25.02%. That licensed figure is the lowest of the seven, against a flat prediction of 25.00%, because two of its three ascendants are among the four least common.

Set that against how the recommendation usually arrives. Our own report engine, before we changed it, picked the stone of whichever mahadasha was running. Its choice was a functional malefic 19.82% of the time and a node 22.43% of the time, and only 19.35% of the time did it land on a stone the rule actually licenses. That is worse than picking one of the nine at random would have been for the licensed case, because the mahadasha lord is not drawn uniformly.

Find your rising sign with the [Rashi Calculator](https://mahadasha.com/rashi-calculator) before anything else. Every row of the table above is indexed on it and on nothing else.

## Venus and the Sun, and a constraint you cannot escape

Venus never strays more than about forty eight degrees from the Sun. That is an orbital fact and it puts a hard limit on where Venus can be in any chart: it is always within two houses of the Sun, in one direction or the other, and never opposite it.

One consequence is that the Sun and Venus can never aspect each other in any chart ever cast, since aspect requires opposition. Only Mercury shares that property. Another is that combust Venus is common, and the orb is ten degrees, or eight when Venus is retrograde. Retrogression narrows the burn zone rather than widening it, which surprises most people.

None of this touches the licensing table. It touches whether a licensed Venus is in any condition to be strengthened.

## What the prescription actually specifies

Friday, ring or middle finger depending on the tradition, silver or platinum setting. Friday is Venus's weekday and the sixth mukhi bead takes the same day.

Venus is also the one graha in this set with two beads rather than one: the 6 mukhi and the 13 mukhi both carry it, along with the Sun and Saturn. Three grahas end up doubled because twelve of the fourteen beads carry a planet and there are only nine planets, which is arithmetic rather than doctrine and is worked through in [the rudraksha guide](https://mahadasha.com/types-of-rudraksha) .

One further detail about the setting, since Venus is the case where it comes up most. The metal in these prescriptions is not decorative: silver belongs to the Moon and Venus by the traditional correspondences, gold to the Sun and Jupiter, and iron to Saturn. A diamond set in gold is a mixed instruction rather than a neutral one, and whether that matters is one of the places where practitioners quietly differ from each other.

## If the diamond is refused for you

The [Shukra mantra](https://mahadasha.com/shukra-mantra) asks sixteen thousand repetitions and no ascendant test applies. Venus runs the longest mahadasha of the nine at twenty years, so the count works out at only 800 repetitions a year, one of the lightest rates in the table.

Note that 34.6% of people never live through a Venus mahadasha at all, given the order the periods run in and a normal life span. That figure comes from the [marriage timing](https://mahadasha.com/when-will-i-get-married) work and it quietly demolishes a lot of advice built on waiting for your Venus period.

## Frequently asked questions about the diamond gemstone

### Who should wear a diamond gemstone?

Capricorn and Aquarius rising have the strongest case, since Venus is a yogakaraka for both. Virgo rising is licensed through the 9th while also carrying a maraka through the 2nd. Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces should not, and Taurus, Gemini and Libra are disputed.

### Is white sapphire the same as a diamond for this?

It feeds the same graha, so the licensing verdict is identical. If Venus is refused for your ascendant, white sapphire is refused too. The substitution is about cost, and the fact that a half carat diamond and a five carat white sapphire are both acceptable shows the weight was never the point.

### Why is the prescribed weight so much lower than other stones?

Market reality rather than astrology. Nothing in the classical framework asks for less material for Venus, and every other stone in our table is prescribed in whole carats.

### Does heera help with relationships?

Venus is the significator of relationships and comfort, so the aim is right. Whether the stone is open to you depends on your rising sign, and for Sagittarius ascendants Venus owns the 6th house of conflict, which points the other way.

### Can Pisces rising wear a diamond if Venus is exalted?

Exaltation is strength and lordship is ownership. For Pisces, Venus owns the 3rd and the 8th, so the stone is refused however dignified the graha is. A strong planet you do not want louder is still a planet you do not want louder.
