What separates the ones that produce money from the ones that do not. Dhana yoga in astrology is the family of combinations that link the houses of accumulation. The four that matter are the 2nd, which holds what you keep, the 11th, which brings what you gain, and the 5th and 9th, which supply the luck and the merit behind both. The 44.55% figure follows from the arithmetic of the definition rather than from anything unusual about the charts. There is a second reason worth naming. Several ascendants give one planet ownership of two of the four houses at once. Saturn owns both the 9th and the 11th for a Pisces ascendant, for example. Whether a single planet owning two wealth houses should count as a combination at all is a genuine disagreement between sources, and it materially changes the reported rate. ## What actually separates the working ones ### The condition of the two lords A combination formed by two planets that are debilitated, combust or hemmed between malefics satisfies the definition and delivers very little. Nothing in the rule inspects the state of the planets forming it, which means the rule on its own is close to uninformative. Any serious reading checks dignity before it celebrates the pairing. ### Where the meeting happens The house the two lords occupy matters as much as the fact that they met. The same 2nd and 11th lord conjunction placed in the 11th house is a very different proposition from the same conjunction placed in the 12th, which is the house of outflow. A wealth combination sitting in the house of expenditure describes money moving through rather than money staying. ### Whether the 2nd and 11th lords are themselves strong A frequently overlooked point is that the houses need supporting as well as connecting. If your 2nd lord is well placed and dignified, the 2nd house works even without a headline combination. If it is weak, a connection to the 11th lord is connecting two weak things. ## Working an example through Take a Leo ascendant. The 2nd house is Virgo and the 5th is Sagittarius, so Mercury owns the 2nd and Jupiter the 5th. The 9th is Aries, owned by Mars, and the 11th is Gemini, owned by Mercury again. Notice immediately that Mercury owns two of the four, which is common and which several sources would already treat as a connection on its own. Now suppose Mercury and Jupiter both sit in the 11th house of that chart. The 2nd lord has joined the 5th lord, in the house of gains, which is about as clean a version of this family as the rule produces. But before calling it good, check two things. Is Mercury combust? For a Leo ascendant with planets in the 11th, the Sun is often nearby, and Mercury is never more than 28 degrees from the Sun to begin with. Is Jupiter dignified in Gemini? It is not; Gemini is ruled by its natural opposite in temperament, and Jupiter there is workmanlike rather than strong. The same arrangement in a chart where Jupiter sits in Sagittarius or Pisces instead is a materially different proposition, even though both charts satisfy the rule identically. This is why the base rate of 44.55% is so much less interesting than the state of the two planets involved. ## The named wealth combinations, and which are worth checking Beyond the six lord pairings, classical texts name individual wealth combinations, and chart software will often report several. Two deserve a mention because they are commonly mislabelled. - **Lakshmi Yoga** is properly about the 9th lord being strong and well placed while the ascendant lord is also strong. Some tools reduce it to Venus in a good sign, which is a different and much easier condition to satisfy. - **Labha Yoga** is often reported when several planets sit in the 11th house. Occupancy of the house of gains is not the same claim as the 11th lord being well connected, and the two get conflated regularly. If a tool reports a long list of wealth combinations, the productive move is to ask which houses each one actually involves and whether it is testing lordship or occupancy. That single question removes most of the list. ## The combination that is genuinely uncommon Within this family, Chandra Mangal is the one that is actually scarce. It asks for the Moon and Mars to occupy the same sign, which happened in 8.51% of the sample, roughly one chart in twelve. Compared with the 44.55% general rate that is a meaningful narrowing, and it is one of the few wealth combinations where the word uncommon can be used without exaggeration. ## Timing, which decides most cases A wealth combination does nothing until the planets forming it run their periods.
