# Business Start Muhurat: Swift Stars, Fixed Ascendant

> A launch wants speed and a company wants to last. The rule asks for both, and the way it does that says something useful about how muhurat rules are built.

# Business Start Muhurat: Swift Stars, Fixed Ascendant

A business start muhurat asks for two things that sound contradictory. The nakshatra should be swift, because a launch that stalls is a launch that failed. The rising sign should be fixed, because a business that does not last is not a business. Read carelessly that looks inconsistent. Read properly it is precise: the star describes the character of the day and the ascendant describes the character of the thing being started.

The classes are Kshipra the swift, Dhruva the fixed and Chara the movable, and Chitra is admitted by name. That gives thirteen stars: Ashwini, Pushya and Hasta from the swift class, Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada from the fixed, Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha from the movable, and Chitra on its own.

## Business start muhurat and the star that is best at everything else

Pushya is called the best of the twenty-seven in more than one text, and it is the star most often named for a shop opening, a first sale or a first invoice. Its lord is Saturn, its deity is Brihaspati, and it sits in Cancer, which is an unusually favourable combination of significations for something that needs to be both durable and well advised.

The interesting part is what Pushya is excluded from. It is not on the marriage list. Not because anyone doubts it, but because the marriage rule takes the fixed and soft classes and Pushya is swift. A star can be the strongest in the sky for beginning an enterprise and still be wrong for a wedding, and that is a useful demonstration that these lists are about fit rather than about ranking.

Guru Pushya Yoga, Pushya falling on a Thursday, is the single most sought combination for a business start. It happens a handful of times a year, since Pushya recurs about every 27.3 days and Thursday every 7, and the two coincide only when the drift lines up. Ravi Pushya, Pushya on a Sunday, is also named, but Sunday is not on this rule's weekday list, which is a genuine tension the sources do not resolve cleanly.

## What 2026 left

Thirteen stars leave 178 days at Delhi with the limbs read at sunrise. The weekday screen, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only, cuts that to 73. The tithi rule brings it to 50.

Notice what the weekday screen did here. It removed 105 days where the same three-weekday screen removed 66 from property purchase, and that is only because this rule started with a much larger star pool. Three of seven weekdays takes roughly the same proportion every time; what changes is how much is left to take it from.

Of the 50, nine fall inside Panchak and nine have Bhadra running at sunrise, which leaves 33 clear of both. Bhadra bites harder here than in most of the twelve, and that is worth planning around rather than discovering on the day.

## Mercury, Jupiter, Venus

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mercury governs trade, accounts and communication, Jupiter governs growth and counsel, Venus governs the money itself. Between them they cover most of what a new enterprise needs, and the absence of Monday from this list is deliberate: the Moon is changeable, and a business is not supposed to be.

Thursday is generally taken as the strongest, which is why Guru Pushya Yoga carries the weight it does. Friday is preferred for anything retail or customer-facing. Wednesday suits a services business, an agency or anything whose product is essentially communication.

## The fixed sign and the tenth house

Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius rising at the moment of the first transaction. Taurus and Aquarius are the two most often named, being Venus's and Saturn's fixed signs and so covering both the wealth and the endurance side of the requirement.

Two chart conditions apply at that minute and both are worth the effort of checking. The tenth house from the rising sign governs the enterprise itself and should be occupied or aspected by a benefic rather than a malefic. The eleventh governs gains and is best left clean. A malefic in the tenth at the opening minute is the one configuration most practitioners would shift an appointment for, in the same way a malefic in the fourth would shift a property registration.

If you want the general reading of what the tenth house carries, [the Sun's placement](https://mahadasha.com/sun-in-different-houses) across the twelve houses is the clearest place to start, since the Sun is one of its natural significators.

## A shop, a company and a practice

The rule above is written for a commercial enterprise generally, and three variants are worth separating because their emphases differ.

A retail shop leans on Friday and on the eleventh house, since its business is turnover and gain. A company or a partnership leans on the fixed ascendant and the tenth house, since what is being founded is meant to outlive its founding week. A professional practice, meaning a doctor, a lawyer or a consultant, leans on Wednesday and on Mercury, because what is being sold is judgement communicated rather than goods moved.

All three take the same thirteen stars and the same three weekdays. What changes is which of the three days you prefer when more than one qualifies, and which house you look at hardest in the chart for the opening minute.

## Which moment is the start

Registration of the company, the first day in the office, the first sale, and the formal inauguration are four different moments and a business often has all four. The convention that holds up is the first transaction: the first money that changes hands in the business's name.

That is a workable rule because it is unambiguous and because it is something you can actually control, unlike a registration date that depends on a government portal. Where an inauguration is held for other reasons, the usual practice is to keep the ceremony where it suits people and place the first invoice inside the muhurat.

## Two founders, two calendars

A sole founder needs their own tara bala and chandra bala to pass on the day, which removes about half of any calendar on its own. Two founders need both to pass, and if the two screens are roughly independent that is a quarter.

The same arithmetic runs through [marriage](https://mahadasha.com/marriage-muhurat) , where it is measured properly: of the days that clear every day-level screen, a specific pair can typically use about a quarter. Applied here, the 33 days that clear Panchak and Bhadra come down to something in the high single figures for a particular pair of founders, and occasionally to nothing.

Practice diverges on what to do about that. The stricter reading requires both. The commoner one takes the managing partner, the person whose name the business is registered in or who will run it day to day, and applies only their personal screens. That is a defensible simplification rather than a shortcut, since the tenth house of the muhurat chart is being read for the enterprise and the enterprise has one operator even when it has several owners.

What is not defensible is applying nobody's. A business start date chosen from the panchang alone has done about half the work, and it is the half that does not know who is starting it.

## Checking a date

The [Muhurat Calculator](https://mahadasha.com/muhurat-calculator) screens business start dates for your city and returns the limbs each candidate was judged on. For the raw day, including whether Bhadra is running when you planned to open, [the karana limb](https://mahadasha.com/karana-in-panchang) is the one that reports it, and the [Panchang Calculator](https://mahadasha.com/panchang-calculator) gives its exact end time.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does an existing business need a muhurat to expand?

A new branch, a new product line or a new market is treated as its own beginning and takes the same screen. A change that is genuinely internal, such as a restructure with no new customer-facing activity, is not usually timed at all.

### What is the best nakshatra for a business start muhurat?

Pushya, and by some distance. On a Thursday it forms Guru Pushya Yoga, which is the most sought combination for any commercial beginning.

### Why is Pushya excluded from marriage lists?

Because marriage takes the fixed and soft classes and Pushya is swift. It is a question of fit rather than quality, and it is the clearest example of why these lists should be read as class rules rather than rankings.

### Which moment does the muhurat apply to?

The first transaction in the business's name. Company registration and formal inaugurations depend on other people's calendars; the first invoice does not.

### Does this apply to an online business?

The same way. The first transaction is still identifiable, and the ascendant condition is read for wherever the founder is when it happens.
