It is the chart people reach for when they want to know about death, which is the worst possible reason to open it. # Ashtamsha Chart (D8): Longevity, Sudden Events and Hidden Trouble The Ashtamsha chart (D8) belongs to the eighth house, which means transformation, inheritance, things that arrive without warning, and the branch of the tradition that deals with lifespan. It is a chart people look up for one reason and it is worth naming that reason immediately, because the honest answer to it changes how the rest of the article should be read. Nobody should be reading this chart to find out when they will die. Not because the subject is forbidden, but because the technique does not work the way the question assumes. ## How the Ashtamsha chart (D8) is derived Each sign divides into eight parts of 3 degrees 45 minutes. Read the D8 for where a life is exposed, then plan around the exposure. A chart that concentrates difficulty around joint resources says something about how carefully shared finances should be documented. One that concentrates it around the body says something about the value of a routine that does not run on adrenaline. One that concentrates it around dependence on other people's decisions says something about keeping options open. None of that requires a date, and all of it is actionable this week. The eighth house rewards preparation more than any other house in the chart, because its events are defined by arriving without notice.
